Socio-Cultural and Individual-Personality Features of Sportspeople

Abstract

Today scientific literature pays special attention to assessment of specific features of sportspeople personality. To study different characteristics of sportsperson’ personality a lot of research was done by various sociological and psychological methods. The findings of this research can be helpful for coaches and specialists working with sportspeople. However, these findings cannot provide clear-cut limits for the category “sportsperson’s personality”. The article investigates socio-cultural and personal characteristics of sportspeople on the background of different fields of life. Such spheres as emotional and volitional were discussed. The author using the example of tennis, as an individual sport and football, as the most popular group sport describes progress of sportspeople in their career, shows specific interaction of successful and unsuccessful sportspeople. Apart from that, the difference of personal characteristics in different groups of sportspeople was shown in case of democratic and liberal style of guidance. Differences and similarities of certain criteria with sportspeople of individual and group sports were demonstrated, as well as with successful and unsuccessful sportspeople during their sport career.
